Modules: short Indonesia tours Modules are short individual Indonesia tours lasting 3 – 4 days, covering the Indonesian islands of Sumatra, Java, Bali, Sulawesi, Lombok, Flores, the Gilis and Komodo. By stringing together these short Indonesia tours (modules) you can create your own personalised Indonesia itinerary, or you can choose to do just one, or a couple of the modules. The Indonesia tours include accommodation in small-scale and authentic hotel or bungalow and an excursion with a local guide, whether it’s a bike ride through the rice paddies, a hike to a tropical waterfall, a historic temple or a Balinese cookery course. The islands of Indonesia each have a unique character and each has so much to offer that it can be hard to choose which ones you want to include in your Indonesia tours. We’ve listed the islands in geographical order, from West to East because we think that’s the most logical way to go on the Indonesia tours, but of course you’re free to travel whichever way you like. For a clear overview we’ve combined the Sunda Islands (Lombok, Flores and Komodo) on one page.Prices are valid unitl 31 March 2010. A local excursion is included in the price, though we also offer several additional (optional) excursions. Just let us know on your Quote Request Form whether you’d like us to book any extra activities for you, or give us a call to discuss your preferences for how you'd like to combine the short Indonesia tours. |
During your Indonesia tour with Indonesia online your transfers between the individual modules will be by eith minibus with other travellers or air-conditioned private car with guide. Sumatra is the most western island of Indonesia and considered by many to be the most interesting and diverse in the archipelago. The island boasts a huge natural diversity; dense jungle and giant crater lakes, rivers, waterfalls and towering volcanoes. Sumatra is also home to several different ethnic groups like the once legendary headhunters and cannibals on Samosir, and the colourful Minangkabau tribe in Bukittinggi. But the most famous native of Sumatra is probably the Orang-utan which can be found in the Gunung Leuser National Park in the north. On Sumatra you can choose from a short 6-day trip around the north, giving you a good impression of everything the island has to offer and then a number of shorter Indonesia tours which will take you to the south of the island for a complete Sumatra experience. Sulawesi, or Celebes as it was once known is the most jaggedly shaped island in the archipelago. There’s a lot to see, do and experience here. In the south you’ll find the traditional Toraja culture, famous for the fascinating and colourful wedding ceremonies. This is also where you’ll find high mountain peaks with breathtaking vistas, lush green rice terraces and pearly white beaches and coral reefs. The volcanic north is home to the Minahasa culture with their distinctive wooden stilted houses and religious stone statues. The smallest and probably most endearing inhabitant of Sulawesi is the huge-eyed tarsier which you’ll find hiding among the foliage in Tangkoko. A trip to Sulawesi wouldn’t be complete without a spot of diving or snorkelling in some of the best coral reefs in Indonesia which you’ll find in Bunaken. With our Indonesia tours you can choose to visit either the south or the north, but you can also combine both regions for a complete Sulawesi experience. The Lesser Sunda Islands, or Nusa Tenggara, includes the area of Lombok, Flores, Komodo National Park and the Gili Islands. Lombok is the most popular of the Islands but it’s managed to remain authentic, quiet and relaxed. The landscape of the north is dominated by 13 mountains, with the Gunung Rinjani towering above them all at 3726m. In the south at Kuta you’ll find the long white beaches and sparkling blue sea, which you’ll also find plenty of on the Gili Islands. Further inland is where the world-famous Indonesia pottery is made by traditional means (without a potters wheel) in three small villages. Flores hasn’t yet been discovered by mass tourism which means it still has a very authentic and traditional atmosphere. The hilly countryside landscape is home to several ethnic groups that still live by traditional means and this is also where you’ll find the volcano Kelimutu with its three mysteriously coloured lakes. Travelling across Flores you’ll pass mountains, rice paddies, plantations and spectacular coastline. The Komodo National Park covers the two islands Komodo and Rinca. This is the only place in the world where you can find the giant Komodo dragon (well, it’s a lizard actually) in the wild and the Park was recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. You can explore the park on foot with a local guide in search of the dragons that can grow up to 3m long and weigh more than 100kg.
